Before Embarkation Day

Verify Your Cruise Documentation:

- Ensure you have proper identification: passport, visas if applicable, and all necessary cruise documents.

Online Check-In:

- Complete the online check-in process for your cruise line to save time at the port.

Print Boarding Documents:

- Print or have digital copies of your boarding pass and itinerary handy.

Download Cruise Line App:

- Many cruise lines have apps that provide ship maps, event schedules, and reservation options.

Health and Safety Protocols:

- Familiarize yourself with any health protocols, including COVID-19 requirements.

Pack an Embarkation Day Bag:

- Include essentials like swimwear, sunscreen, medications, and a change of clothes, as luggage may not be delivered to your room until later in the day.

Luggage Tags:

- Attach luggage tags provided by the cruise line to ensure safe delivery to your cabin.

Transportation to Port:

- Confirm your transportation arrangements to the embarkation port.

Currency:

- Have some cash or cards handy, especially if traveling internationally.

Travel Insurance:

- Consider purchasing travel insurance for peace of mind.

Copy of Documentation:

- Make photocopies of important documents (keep a set with you and leave a set at home).

- I also recommend taking photographs of your passport book, Birth Certificate and/or

Driver’s license. Save the photos on your phone and email a copy to yourself. This will allow you to leave the physical documentation in the safe in your cabin when you go ashore. (You will still need to take your photo ID and sea pass card.)

Check Dress Code:

- Review the ship's dress code for dining and special events.

Pre-Book Excursions:

- Book any shore excursions in advance to avoid sold-out activities.

Review Itinerary:

- Familiarize yourself with the daily itinerary and any special events.

Plan Sleep Arrangements:

- If traveling with family, predetermine sleeping arrangements.

Set Up Communication:

- Discuss communication plans with family or friends while at sea (onboard Wi-Fi or SIM cards).

Secure Valuables:

- Use the cabin safe.

Read the Cruise Line’s FAQs:

- Familiarize yourself with what items are prohibited onboard.

Pack a Positive Attitude:

- Prepare for fun and relaxation and handle any travel hiccups with patience and grace.

 Embarkation Day Tips

Arrive Early:

- Arrive early to allow ample time for check-in and security processes.

Tip the Porters:

-Bring small bills to tip the Porters. These are the staff who ensure your checked bags make it to the ship. Most people tip them $5.00 or $10.00.

Explore the Ship:

- Once aboard, explore the layout to get comfortable with the facilities and location of amenities.

Attend the Safety Drill:

- Participate in the muster drill to understand emergency procedures.

Make Dining Reservations:

- Reserve specialty dining as soon as possible to secure desired times.

Set up Wi-Fi:

- Connect to the ship’s internet and finalize drink or dining packages if needed.

Relax and Enjoy:

- After your initial setup, settle in with a drink, or head to the pool to start the vacation.

Additional Onboard Tips

Sign Up for Activities: Register for any onboard activities or classes that catch your interest.

Check Your Account Regularly: Use the app or onboard kiosks to monitor your spending.

Don’t Forget Sun Protection: Reapply sunscreen frequently, even during excursions.

Take Seasickness Precautions: If prone to motion sickness, consider medications or remedies in advance.

Be sure to read your receipts for purchases carefully as some may have gratuities already added in the total.  Adding a tip is always appreciated but not always necessary.
